UMMA History

From the humble beginnings, the UMMA (United Muslim Migrants Association) Centre has been serving the Muslim community of Melbourne for over twenty five years. The Centre was purchased in 1984 through funding provided by founding enthusiastic members, UMMA community and respected donors. It has so far played a part in three generations of Australian Muslims and continues to have a UMMA key role in the Muslim way of life.

The mosque’s current capacity can accommodate up to 800 people for prayers using its courtyard and the side rooms. However on occasions like Friday’s, Ramadan and Eid the number of people attending the place exceed over 2000 resulting in performing their prayers in the open area in difficult conditions specially in wet weather conditions.
