🤲🏽 We’re in the blessed month of Muharram – a month Allah honoured by making it one of the four “sacred” months and the Prophet (SAW) venerated by describing it as شَهْرُ اللَّهِ (Allah’s month)! Indeed, there was no month outside of Ramadan that the Prophet (SAW) was more keen in fasting than Muharram!
The Prophet (SAW) said: “The most virtuous fasting after the month of Ramadan is that of Allah’s month of Al-Muharram…” [Tirmidhi]
🌊 On the 10th of Muharram is the Day of ‘Ashoora – a day on which Allah saved Musa (AS) and the believers from the evil Pharoah. Such is the significance of this day that our Prophet (SAW) initially made it obligatory to fast (before the fasts of Ramadan were prescribed and this ruling was abrogated).
💨 Fasting on this day expiates a year’s worth of sins!
The Prophet (SAW) said: “..fasting the day of ‘Ashoora’ I hope Allaah will expiate thereby for the year that came before it.” [Muslim]
The minimum sunnah is to fast just on the Day of ‘Ashoora. The better option is to fast a day before (9th Muharram) or a day after (11th Muharram), or the best option is to fast all three days.
Since the Day of ‘Ashoora falls on Thursday, combine with the sunnah of fasting Thursdays.
