Islamic Marriage (Nikah)

Marriages

The Islamic Marriage is necessary upon every Muslim that gets married. From Islam’s point of view, the Islamic Marriage is a commitment, a safeguard, and a religious duty. Today, the process in which two individuals get married is the same in Islam as it was at the time of the Prophet Mohammad (Peace be upon him).

UMMA provides marriage ceremony services for Muslims according to both the Islamic practice of marriage and the Australian legal requirements for marriage. These services are provided by our Imams.

When a couple have made the intention to marry, they can arrange to have their marriage ceremony performed in UMMA masjid or also use our multi-Purpose Hall.

What does the procedure entail?

At UMMA we conduct Islamic Marriage (Nikah) and celebrate civil marriage.

Our Imams who are ‘Registered Minister of Religion’ are authorised to celebrate Islamic Marriage and register with Birth, Death, and Marriage Registry of Victoria (BDM).

Couples who intend to marry should lodge the Notice of Intention to Marry (NOIM) one month prior to the date of intended marriage.

For Islamic Marriage (Nikah), the couple may request the UMMA’s Certificate of Islamic Marriage from the celebrant Imam.
